Flux
// Description
Flux 2 by Black Forest Labs — founded by former Stability AI developers — is the open-source image generator with the best price-performance ratio on the market (as of March 2026). While Midjourney leads in aesthetics and DALL-E in accessibility, Flux dominates in three areas: Speed (4.5 seconds per image), Cost (from $0.003 per image via API) and Control (fully executable locally, custom workflows via ComfyUI).
Flux can be run entirely on your own hardware — from 12 GB VRAM (e.g. RTX 4070). This makes it the first choice for privacy-critical projects where images must not leave the company. Via ComfyUI, complex generation pipelines can be built: ControlNet for poses, IP-Adapter for style transfer, LoRA fine-tuning for brand-specific visual language. No other image generator offers this depth of technical control.
The API prices are unbeatable: Fal.ai charges ~$0.01-0.03 per image, Replicate ~$0.003-0.01 per image. For comparison: DALL-E costs $0.04 per image via API, Midjourney has no official API. For volume production — when 50+ image variants are needed for A/B tests or product catalogs — Flux is 5-10x cheaper than any alternative.
The weaknesses: Text rendering in images is not yet consistent (DALL-E is better here), and the pure aesthetics don't quite reach Midjourney level. For hero images and campaign visuals, professionals still reach for Midjourney — for everything else, Flux is the more economical choice.
// Use Cases
- Volume Image Generation
- Privacy-Critical Projects
- Custom Workflows
- Rapid Prototyping
- ComfyUI Pipelines
- Fine-Tuning
Flux is our secret weapon for volume production: When we need 50+ image variants for A/B tests, Flux via API is unbeatable in terms of cost. For hero images and campaign visuals, we still rely on Midjourney. The combination of both tools — Midjourney for quality, Flux for quantity — is our standard setup for visual content.
