What is Nano Banana?

Nano Banana surfaced in August 2025 as an anonymous codename in benchmark arenas and turned out to be Google's image model inside Gemini. The name stuck because the internet already knew it. The current stage Nano Banana Pro runs on Gemini 3 Pro Image and is less an image generator than an image editor you talk to: change lighting, rotate the camera angle, swap objects, without re-rolling the rest of the picture.

Developers pay $0.134 per image at 1K or 2K via the Gemini API and $0.24 at 4K. For campaign series that beats any stock-photo budget.

How it compares
